A compressor bracket is the mounting assembly that fixes the A/C compressor to the engine block and lets the crank pulley drive it by belt. The trade also calls it a drive kit, mount kit or compressor mounting kit. It is essential when retrofitting air conditioning to a vehicle delivered without it, and in refrigerated-body, chilled-van and ambulance conversions that need a second compressor.
What is in the kit?
- Cast aluminium or steel bracket body that bolts to the engine's original mounting points
- Tensioner pulley and, where needed, an idler pulley
- Poly-V belt of the correct length (belt code on the kit label)
- Bolts, washers and spacers
- An additional crank pulley on some engines (for example Iveco Daily 2.3 TVS kits)
The compressor itself is not included. Each kit suits specific compressor types: Sanden SD5H14 / SD7H15, Zexel-Valeo TM13 / TM15 / TM16, QP13 / QP15 / QP16 and Unicla UP150 / UP170, normally with a Poly-V Ø119 mm 8PK or 10PK clutch pulley.
Five steps to the right bracket
- Engine code: the code on the registration document decides. In the same Ford Transit body the Euro 6.2 and Euro 6.4 engines have different pulley sizes; post-2023 Transits need the new-pulley kit.
- Drive type: RWD, FWD and AWD layouts differ; Transit and Master have separate kits.
- Factory A/C: on an A/C-ready vehicle a 2nd bracket assembly drives a second compressor; a vehicle without A/C takes the 1st bracket or full kit.
- Ancillary positions: alternator and power steering pump location (e.g. Ducato 2.2 alternator on the left) changes the kit.
- Gearbox: some kits suit manual gearboxes only; check the product note for automatics.
Why Oliva Torras?
Oliva Torras Mount & Drive Kits has engineered OEM mounting assemblies in Spain since 1950 and is a standard supplier to Carrier, Thermo King and Webasto. Every kit is tested on the actual engine for vibration, belt alignment and tension; fitting instructions and torque values come in the box. No welding, drilling or adapter plates.
Installation checks
- Clean the contact faces on the block before fitting; paint and rust residue spoil alignment.
- Tighten bolts in the instructed sequence and to torque; check belt alignment with a straight edge.
- Set belt tension to the manufacturer value; a slack belt squeals, an over-tight belt kills bearings.
- Ford Transit kits recommend the Oliva Torras crank-bolt tool; see the technical notes on the product page.
- Re-check belt tension and bolt torque after the first 500 km.
